The long-running crime dramedy on BBC and Netflix is set to return. Death in Paradise season 9 has been renewed last February just right after its season 8 ended. It has also received a confirmation for the 10th season.

According to Metro, newcomer Aude Legastelois (as DS Madeleine Dumas) will be a series regular for Death in Paradise season 9. Ardal O'Hanlon, on the other hand, will still be reprising his role as DI Jack Mooney to work alongside Dumas despite rumors that he was set to leave the series.

Legastelois debuted on Death in Paradise season 8 to replace Jacqueline Jobert (as Florence Cassell), who quit the show in 2018. Her presence has filled the gap that opened up due to Jobert's sudden exit.

The actress said that she's excited to continue playing Dumas in Death in Paradise season 9. She also expressed her eagerness to be fully integrated into the show's police team and have viewers get to know her character better.

According to Digital SpyDeath in Paradise season 9 will likely kick off its premiere date in January 2020. BBC, however, has not yet given a confirmed release date since filming for the new season is speculated to begin by the early summer.

Meanwhile, viewers outside of the U.K. can follow Death in Paradise on Netflix. Currently, the show's seven seasons are easily accessible on the streaming platform. Season 8, on the other hand, may likely be ready for streaming by September, according to What's On Netflix.

Death in Paradise, created by Robert Thorogood, follows the joint UK and French police force working at the Caribbean. The show has a typical format, where the police investigate murders in the islands.

The series started in 2011 with Ben Miller in the lead role as DI Richard Poole. However, by the third season of Death in Paradise, Miller's character was killed off, and his team investigated his murder. Kris Marshall then took over as the head investigator as DI Humphrey Goodman, but by the sixth season, the actor also departed the show and was written off as a happily married man in London.

O'Hanlon then took over as Mooney and is currently the head at the Saint Marie headquarters. It is expected, however, that there will be more cast additions and announcements to Death in Paradise season 9 leading up to the resumption of production.
