Following its successful run, CBS' The Big Bang Theory season 12 aired its very last episode on Thursday, May 17. The two-part finale featured major changes for the show's beloved nerds and Penny (played by Kaley Cuoco).
The first episode of The Big Bang Theory season 12 finale confirmed that Sheldon (played by Jim Parsons) and Amy (played by Mayim Bialik) won the Nobel Prize. Sheldon, however, couldn't handle this victory and the changes that came with it, so he started to have a meltdown and hid from the public.
Howard (played by Simon Helberg) and Bernadette (played by Melissa Rauch) decided to become the spokesperson for Sheldon and Amy in the media. Amy, on the other hand, got a makeover with the help of Raj (played by Kunal Nayyar) so that she could have more confidence facing the reporters.
Meanwhile, Penny gave Sheldon a pep talk to help change his views about what's happening around him in The Big Bang Theory season 12 finale. She pointed out that he's the only person she knows who dreaded winning a major award because his life is changing. Penny also made Sheldon see that his life did change even before they won the Nobel Prize.
"You have friends, got married...had sex almost as many times as I have fingers," Penny told Sheldon, as per Glamour.
The second part of The Big Bang Theory season 12 finale saw the whole gang going to Sweden to watch Sheldon and Amy receive their award. Bernadette easily figured out that Penny and Leonard (played by Johnny Galecki) also had a big milestone -- they're finally having a baby!
Meanwhile, Raj is still single but has an amazing date to the Nobel Prize party in actress Sarah Michell Gellar in a special cameo. Viewers of The Big Bang Theory season 12 also got to see Howard and Bernadette's children for the very first time. Also, the apartment elevator that hasn't been working for the last 12 seasons has finally been fixed.
Following the airing of The Big Bang Theory season 12 finale, the cast shared photos and videos behind the scenes of their final taping on social media, as per Entertainment Tonight.
"If you enjoy it even half as much as we've enjoyed (LOVED) creating this show for the past 12 years, then that'll be a WHOLE WHOLE lot of enjoyment," Parson, the show's biggest star, said in his post. "All of us will miss seeing you in this format, but we will be around in all sorts of ways, I assure you... love love love."
