Avid followers of this famous British crime drama television series continue to wonder if Sherlock Season 5 is happening. While cancelation rumors continue to hound the show, series creator Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have been very positive that having another installment is still possible.

BBC, which is the network that airs the show, has not released any hints on the series' fate. This, then, pushed some fans to create theories and predictions on what could they expect in the yet-to-be-confirmed Sherlock Season 5.

Rumors are rife that series regulars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are very much likely to return for another run should Sherlock Season 5 push through. This is despite the fact that the pair was, previously, being pitted due to their contradictory statements.

Martin Freeman, previously, said that doing the show is no longer fun because of the pressure they experience due to fans' demands. The idea did not sit well to Benedict Cumberbatch and said it is unfair to say it since the fans are one of the many reasons why a show continues. Martin and Benedict's opposing declarations sparked speculations that Sherlock Season 5 might not be happening at all.

However, in an interview, series creator Steven Moffat emphasized that nothing is final yet. So, it is premature to say that neither Benedict Cumberbatch nor Martin Freeman is coming back for the yet-to-be-confirmed fifth installment. Steven, also, said that none of them have "closed the doors" to doing Sherlock Season 5.

Steven Moffat noted that one of the reasons why Sherlock Season 5 has been delayed is because of his and Mark Gatiss' hectic schedules. The duo is, currently, filming the Dracula series and refused to do other projects while they are still at the helm of it. "We're not going to do Sherlock whilst we're doing Dracula," Steven said to RadioTimes. "That means audiences will have to wait two more years for Sherlock - if it returns at all," added.

Though nothing is finalized yet as of this writing, recent reports suggested that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman could return earlier than expected. A shop owner in London, who works nearby the regular filming location of the series, allegedly, claimed that he heard someone said "they'll be coming back" for Sherlock Season 5.

However, drawing a conclusion based on hearsay does not make it accurate. Hence, avid followers of the show should take these unverified claims lightly until everything is proven true and correct. Stay tuned to Business Times for the latest news and updates about Sherlock Season 5!
