The mermaid drama series Siren on Freeform has recently been given a third season renewal. The show, however, has yet to begin airing the second half of Sirenseason 2. It will return on Thursday, June 13, at 8:00 p.m. on the cable network.

According to Deadline, the renewal of Siren season 3 was not a surprise decision since it is the number one show on Freeform. It's also the most watched series among the cable network's 18-49 female audience.

Freeform has not yet announced the premiere date of Siren season 3. However, Daily Express surmised that the show would likely return in early 2020 based on the previous seasons.

Siren season 1 launched on the network in March 2018 with 10 episodes. The second season, on the other hand, started its run in January 2019 and took a break after the eighth episode aired in March.

Siren season 2 will continue airing eight more episodes this June to complete a 16-episode run. According to the executive producers, the upcoming storyline will expound on the complicated relationship between Rys (played by Eline Powell), Ben (played by Alex Roe) and Maddie (played by Fola Evans-Akingbola).

"We teased it a lot in the first year, and it would be unfair to the audience if we just teased it forever without getting to what we're trying to land on," showrunner Emily Whitesell said in an interview with TV Line. "We could only dance around that polyamorous relationship for so long, and we really did hold off."

According to the episode synopsis, the first episode back for Siren season 2 will find the humans dealing with the aftermath of the oil rig attack, according to the episode synopsis. The mermaids, on the other hand, try to start life anew in the ocean but Ryn returns to Bristol Cove because of her agreement with some military officials.

Meanwhile, it's still unclear who will be back in Siren season 3 with the second season still about to return on the air. However, the show's mainstays Powell and Roe are expected to be back. Also expected to return for the third installment are Ian Verdun (as Xander McClure), Rena Owen (as Helen Hawkins), Ron Yuan (as Aldon Decker and Tammy Gillis (as Marissa Staub).
