G-Dragon and Lee Joo Yeon shocked everyone when Dispatch announced them as the first couple to be revealed in 2018. Previously, Dispatch has been known to reveal an unexpected couple on the first day of every year, such as Sooyoung and Jung Kyung-ho, Yoona and Lee Seung-gi, and more.
What made the G-Dragon and Lee Joo Yeon dating rumors a surprise was the fact that they were focusing on their solo activities and maintaining a low profile at the time. It was not the first time both of them were involved in a love scandal.
But with G-Dragon currently completing his mandatory military service, the romance rumors eventually died down. But on the dawn of May 31, Lee Joo Yeon uploaded on her personal Instagram a video then quickly deleted it.
It was the video she used a smartphone application to film with a man. Because of the face adaptation effect, it is difficult to identify her companion at first. However, while the man turned his head and looked at Lee Joo Yeon, the effect was lost, and G-Dragon was revealed.
In response, her agency, Mystic Story, commented, “It is difficult to check regarding Lee Joo Yeon’s personal life.”
Previously in October 2017, their dating rumors were denied after the reveal of a video that the two took together through the app Kwai. Their agencies also denied rumors of their trip to Hawaii together afterward, and they were then swept up in rumors again in January 2018 through a report by Dispatch.
Despite the denial, fans of BIGBANG, called VIP, were very upset with Lee Joo Yeon. Many believe the video is not recent, but an old one, and the post was not an accident but shared on purpose for attention. As a result, fans are firing criticism toward Jooyeon for using G-Dragon. Many are also pointing out this is a bad time to cause an issue considering all the scandal going on with YG Entertainment lately.
"Please refrain from those childish acts, we have no say in whatever thing that has to do with your private life, just keep it to yourself, we don’t want more drama,” one said. “May I ask you to stop posting throwbacks if it’s Ji-yong (G-Dragon)? We don’t want more fuel to the fire. Too many issues this year. Please don’t add up to it,” another one wrote.
One fan noted that they were okay if G-Dragon and Lee Joo Yeon were dating, but the actress didn't have to share then delete a photo/video with the BIGBANG star. "To be honest, I'm fine with it if they are really dating as long as Jiyong is happy but why post it and delete it after?? It smells fishy," the comment read.
Fans would do anything to protect their idols. Some would even go to extremes just to keep them safe, and this is a perfect example.
