Just when you thought that Seungri’s scandal was slowly dying down after all the attention went to iKON’s B.I., his controversy recently picked up again. The former BIGBANG star is now being suspected of 1 billion KRW of embezzlement charges along with former Yuri Holdings CEO Yoo In Suk.
Authorities have previously requested arrest warrants against the 28-year-old singer, songwriter, record producer, actor, entrepreneur, DJ, and creative director and Yoo In Suk. Embezzlement of approximately 530 million KRW from club 'Burning Sun's revenues were included in the case.
But during the investigation process, it was realized that it involved a much bigger amount. On June 19, the intellectual crime division of the Seoul central district police station is suspecting a total amount of 1.8 billion KRW (approx $1.5 million) embezzled from Burning Sun’s revenue since its opening.
”We've concluded that Seungri and Yoo In Suk were colluding with Taiwanese investor Madame Lin in the process of their embezzlement,” the intellectual crime division stated. The 1 billion KRW was misappropriated by Seungri and Yoo In Suk, while the other 42% was embezzled by the club’s chief executives Lee Sung Hyun and Lee Mun Ho.
Back in May, police already requested arrest warrants against Seungri and Yoo In Suk for multiple criminal charges. The request was eventually dismissed after it was listed as questionable. Despite the new update, police have no plans in requesting another arrest warrants against Seungri and Yoo In Suk as of this writing.
Meanwhile, a June 20 report revealed that Seungri was investigated suspicions of drug use in 2016. According to legal sources, Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office conducted a basic drug test on the former BIGBANG star. His result came out negative.
It is worth noting that it was also around this time that Han Seo Hee’s drug use and her KakaoTalk chat with B.I was going on. These incidents were under Yang Hyun Suk’s watch. As a result, the YG Entertainment CEO stepped down and said, “All of the suspicions that have been raised until now are based on the informants’ one-sided opinions and not true in any way.”
Netizens were also dismayed with how the company handled Seungri's and B.I.'s cases. YG ENtertainment seemed to favor the former BIGBANG star more as his photo can still be seen with the other members on the website while B.I. was quickly taken out. Fans also believed that YG let the former iKON leader go instantly without giving him a chance.
