The Good Doctor season 3 is all set for Dr. Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore) in a new role. Creator and showrunner David Shore said that the character would experience things he has never felt before.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Shore hinted that Shaun would be testing the waters of intimacy in The Good Doctor season 3. As a character in the autism spectrum, this will bring new challenges for Shaun.
"We're putting him in the role of suitor," Shore said. "I want to explore all those landmarks that happen in all our lives as we grow up and just explore it through his eyes, which really aren't that different, ultimately."
Viewers got a whiff of this when Shaun asked Carly (played by Jasika Nicole) out on a date at the end of The Good Doctor season 2 finale, and she agreed. Shore said that Shaun would have some success in the dating scene in the third season, but he will also experience failures.
It will be interesting to see how this will translate on screen with Highmore portraying the character with autism. Incidentally, Highmore told Deadline that he is keen on directing and writing another episode of The Good Doctor season 3.
Meanwhile, ABC has not yet announced the return date for The Good Doctor season 3. However, the show will still be airing in its original Monday time schedule at 10:00 p.m.
It looks like all of the cast members from the second season will also be back for The Good Doctor season 3. There hasn't been an announcement of new cast additions or departures so far, but the actors have been back on the set since early June to begin discussions with the writers about what's coming up next.
In other news, The Good Doctor has been awarded as the most watched television show in the world with over 50 million viewers, per C21 Media. Given during the Monte Carlo Television Festival, this award is quite a big deal for the cast and true since the show is just two years on the air.
The award is a clear indication that the show has managed to perform well in the ratings in 63 territories. Also recognized for this award are Grey's Anatomy, another medical drama on ABC, and the Indian drama series Naagin.
