Baby season 2 is happening on Netflix. Released internationally last November 2018, the streaming platform has signed on the show for another season.

The announcement of the renewal was posted on the show's Instagram account just before Christmas last year. It's believed that the cast and crew have returned to the set for the production of the second season.

Baby takes points from a real-life scandal that rocked Rome, Italy in 2014 when authorities learned of a massive prostitution ring in one of the city's wealthiest areas. More than a dozen girls in the ages of 14 to 16 fell victims to this illegal activity and at the center of the story is Chiara, played by Benedetta Porcaroli.

Chiara goes to an expensive high school and, along with her friend Ludovica (played by Alice Pagani), they were enticed to sell their body to support their lavish lifestyle and deal with their issues as teenagers. While prostitution is legal in Rome, it is not consented for women under 18 years old.

Baby has generated quite a controversy as the Netflix series promoted the sex trade. Despite this, the streaming platform has decided to give the show another season.

"I was aware of the [scandal's] facts, but these were just a starting point for the series," the actress said of her show, in an interview with Refinery29. "The characters were only loosely inspired by the real ones. For me, the script was the focus of my job."

Porcaroli is expected to be back in Baby season 2, along with Pagani. However, it's still unclear if the rest of the cast from the first season will be back for the next installment given that some of them have died. Netflix hasn't made any announcements beyond confirming that the show has been renewed.

Baby season 1 had six episodes and the second season could also likely follow the same episode count. Writers Antonio Le Fosse, Marco Raspanti, Eleonora Trucchi, Giacomo Mazzariol and Re Salvador are still expected to work on the storyline of Baby season 2.

The second season is expected to pick up with Chiara's new friend, Damiano Younes (played by Riccardo Mandolini) discovering that she's in the sex trade. Will he become part of this operation too?

The first season of Baby remains streaming on Netflix.
