MacGyver season 4 won't be coming back on the CBS until next year, but the good news is that filming has already started and there were new additional characters in the upcoming installment.
Recently, series star Justin Hires (plays the role of Wilt Bozer) shared via his Instagram account that they have already started filming for the fourth season. That only means the Phoenix Foundation gang are coming back to take on new missions, as well as threats.
When MacGyver season 4 returns, fans will also be seeing some new faces in the series. For instance, Henry Ian Cusick (plays Russ) has been added on board. His character has a background on the military, and he's also wealthy and a big personality. Also, his character suggests he is far different from his roles on The 100 and Lost.
Meanwhile, Levy Tran was also promoted as series regular in MacGyver season 4. She plays the role of Desi Nguyen; she was introduced over the past few weeks of the third season. In the Instagram video posted by Hire, he can be seen on set being with some familiar faces, including Tristin Mays (Riley), Lucas Till (Mac), as well as Tran and Cusick.
The former Lost and The 100 star seems to be preparing for his character, and there were only a few details about him - such his military background and intellect. But, it looks like Cusick's character would be a good help for Mac, largely because he's someone who comes with a lot of experience.
But even though Cusick was added on board, the series is still all about Mac trying to solve problems with his mind, while at the same time fighting to save the day. The show comes with action and drama, but it also brings lighthearted and comedic scenes at some point, which is good for this kind of series.
Meanwhile, MacGyver season 4 has been planned to have 13 episodes. However, some believe that number could change, especially since the series is on its early stage of filming. If ever, CBS could change its mind and would order more episodes - or even less.
That all depends on the network, so the production needs to prepare as well if ever changes will happen. And while the series has already started filming, that doesn't necessarily mean the show will return earlier than expected. The release date of MacGyver season 4 isn't reportedly scheduled until midseason 2020.
Throughout the filming, however, many are hoping they would get more updates on what to expect on the fourth installment, including the characters and story development. Also, some want to see a full-on crossover between MacGyver, Magnum P.I., and Hawaii Five-0, yet that depends on the production.
