To adults, controlling aggression is not an easy thing to do. This negative emotion feels so worse; it could even make someone scream and explode with anger anytime. Dealing with such might seem worst, but did you know that it is even harder for kids to control their emotions?
"Since they don't have a fully developed frontal cortex to help them self-regulate, children are even more prone to lashing out when they're angry," explains by the experts from Aha! Parenting, which is an online parenting blog. Given this reason, we could never blame the kids for being too harsh or for being too angry for even small things.
So if this is the reason why children tend to be more expressive of anger, then what can we do to alter the problem? Experts behind the study published in the journal Aggressive Behavior discovered something that could be of great help.
In the study, it shows that children who were given omega-3 supplements showed favorably good results when it comes to controlling their anger and aggression as compared to those who did not. To come up with the results, the researchers worked with several children who were given either omega-3 supplements or placebo over one year.
"This is a promising line of research because omega-3 fatty acids are thought to improve brain health in children and adults," but only less information regarding how it can help improve children's behavior is available in the mainstream, explains Jill Portnoy, who is the study's main author. This study is one amazing way to unfold the benefits of these omega acids more, especially when it comes to children's brain development.
The effects of omega-3 acids in the brain function of a child are also long-term, according to Portnoy. Given this, the expert assures there is no need for parents to worry with their kid bursting with uncontrollable anger due to unknown reasons anymore. Aside from improving children's behavior, omega-3 fatty acids are also known to help improve eyesight, control blood clotting, and also build the structures of the brain, as reported by Body and Soul.
Since these fats are not available in the body naturally, experts advise parents to include omega-3 rich foods to their kids' diet. Foods that are rich in these fats include salmon, herring, oysters, mackerel, sardines, caviar, and anchovies. Omega-3 supplements are also available in the market for easier consumption. Just ask your doctor before taking it first to avoid complications
