Earlier today, several tech sites reported about an internal memo allegedly issued to the customer support of Nintendo Switch instructing the department to handle repairs refunds of the drifting Joy-Con of the Nintendo Switch for free. Although it was a late action from the hybrid console maker, it is, in any way, great news to many users. But, the good news apparently is rather short-lived as new reports surfaced that the free service and refunds are only available in some regions.

According to a recent conversation between Nintendo in the UK and a Nintendo Switch user, so far, there has been no change in terms of policy within the UK when it comes to the alleged free repair and refund offered by Nintendo to Nintendo Switch users with Joy-Con issues. In fact, the customer support staff of the company in Europe said that Nintendo of America released a statement telling them to continue with their process of acknowledging the known issues of the Joy-Con of the Nintendo switch.

This was revealed by Reddit user named Toboid on the site when he inquired if he would qualify for the free Nintendo Switch Joy-Con issue. The same case is happening in France, but Reddit user flame03 said that in the Netherlands that they have spoken with Nintendo the other day and the repairs have already begun. The user said that based on EU laws; there must be a one-year factory warranty and two years store warranty.

Flame)3 also shared the conversation he had with Nintendo, and they began repairing the Joy-cons without any shipping costs or charge, all for free. The only request the Japanese console maker asked the user is the copy of the shipping label and to ship the Joy-Cons in a box to be repaired. At this point, it seems that other Nintendo branches in various locations may or may not follow the free repairs and refunds.

In the UK we still can't get free joy-con repairs and we only have 1 year warranty. *sigh* from r/NintendoSwitch

Additionally, it is not clear if the alleged internal memo obtained by Vice will be applied to all regions outside the US. Things will definitely clear out if Nintendo releases an official statement concerning the latest issue with the Joy-Cons. It will help provide clarity, especially to Nintendo Switch users with defective Joy-Cons if the company becomes more vocal on its pronouncements.

Meanwhile, Nintendo has launched a new set of Joy-Cons for Nintendo Switch users who are already tired of the Joy-Con issue. Or, they could try the Nintendo Switch Lite, which does not require any Joy-Con.
