The talent agency of Song Hye Kyo, then, responded and said, "We find it unfortunate that we are greeting you with unhappy news. After careful consideration, actress Song Hye Kyo and her husband are taking the first steps toward a divorce."
The United Artists Agency revealed, in the same statement, that irreconcilable personality differences were the main reason behind their decision to divorce. It claimed that Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo were not able to overcome these differences and were forced to take the first steps toward a split.
While Song Joong Ki is a single man again, recent reports suggested that he is still not free from challenges. It was revealed that his current series, Arthdal Chronicles, has suffered a lot since the news about his divorce from Song Hye Kyo broke. It was said that ratings plummeted significantly after the announcement.
Because of this, production companies are said to be considering including a so-called "divorce clause" in upcoming contracts with married stars. Some media outlets based in South Korea claimed that artists who caused controversies due to divorce while a series airs would be paying three times their contract fee as a penalty. It was created following the divorce of Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo.
