BLACKPINK is proving that they have a lot of fans on the streaming platform as their lead over their closest competition is more or less three times, a significant achievement for Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rose who are gearing to celebrate their third debut anniversary this month.
In preparation for the milestone, Chinese fans of BLACKPINK are planning a global event extending from Beijing to New York. According to a report by Global Times, the Chinese fan club BLACKPINK Bar is currently planning to have BLACKPINK videos broadcast in major Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. The group is even planning on broadcasting their videos on New York's Times Square in time for their anniversary.
BLACKPINK bar is also planning to put up posters on the entrance of major Seoul subway stations for a month.
This is not the first time that Chinese fans have gone all out to celebrate the debut anniversaries of their Kpop idols. It can be recalled that during EXO's fifth debut anniversary, Chinese fans also sponsored images and videos of the SM artists on the Times Square Billboard. BTS also had the honor of being flashed across major billboards in the Big Apple, courtesy of their global ARMY, Forbes reported.
The trend of sponsoring Kpop stars in New York's Times Square started in 2017 which saw the most popular NASDAQ and Thomson Reuters being rented by fans to bring attention to their idols for $30,000 per week.
BLACKPINK's debut album Square One, was officially released August 8, 2019, and they have come a long way since then.
"Many Chinese fans were attracted to BLACKPINK after they released their first single Square One in 2016, but there are also a lot of fans who were paying attention to YG's new girl idol group long before their debut, back when they were still trainees," Laofeng, administrator of the BLACKPINK Bar, said.
