The Skywalker Saga will end this year with Star Wars Episode 9. But what could this possibly mean for the main characters in the sequel trilogy? People believe that things need to get worse for Kylo Ren before he gets a redemption arc in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. But is it possible that his fate had already been decided a long time ago?

Kylo Ren's storyline has always been dark and erratic just like him. In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he managed to kill a helpless old Lor San Tekka within the first 15 minutes of the film. On the other hand, he was also prone to tantrums when things don't go his way, promptly destroying anything in his path when he realized that Rey had escaped. Interestingly, all these traits seem to mirror those of both Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker in A New Hope.

In A New Hope, Darth Vader is quickly established as a dangerous villain who also has a short temper. He quickly Force-chokes Admiral Motti for making insolent comments about the Sith. Although Willhuff Tarkin managed to save Motti from certain death, this wouldn't be the only time that Vader would prove his dangerously short temper. It's certainly a trait that Kylo Ren got from his grandfather.

While Kylo Ren is being established to be the new Darth Vader, there's another character in A New Hope who could be compared to the former Ben Solo. Early on in the first Star Wars film, Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru discuss how Luke Skywalker is a lot like his father. Beru points out that Luke shouldn't be kept in Tatooine for too long since "he has too much of his father in him." Owen promptly answers that this is something he is afraid of.

A similar conversation happened in The Force Awakens when Leia Organa and Han Solo are reunited. Han tells Leia that there was nothing they could do about Ben turning to the Dark Side because "there was too much Vader in him." However, Leia, who is also Force-sensitive, points out that she can still sense the Light in her son. Hopefully, she will be proven correct in Star Wars Episode 9.

But what could it all mean? There's a huge possibility that Kylo Ren will return to the Light Side of the Force and ultimately sacrifice himself to save everyone in The Rise of Skywalker.

Will Kylo Ren's fate be similar to that of Darth Vader's? Find out when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
