Naomi Watts earlier talked about her inclusion in the upcoming Game of Thrones Prequel. Although the 50-year-old star has yet to reveal details about her unknown role, she praised the spinoff series' showrunner, Jane Goldman, for her work.
Watts described Goldman as "a genius and completely brilliant." These descriptions might be the one that the new show needs. However, compared to the original series' creator, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, she is not a household name.
Goldman made a name for her work in the films Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class. She also used to have her television series, Jane Goldman Investigates.
Watts, on the other hand, is not overexposed, per Winter is Coming. No one even recognizes her quickly. But as all eyes are now on Game of Thrones Prequel, it will surely raise their public profiles.
Watts admitted she has fears about the fame the show will bring her. Until now, she still has no idea what she will prepare for.
Aside from Goldman, George R.R. Martin, who is the main brain behind Game of Thrones, will also work on the spinoff series, Pop Matters noted. He was deeply involved in the original show as he used to be its executive producer, consultant, casting assistant, and even writing some episodes.
However, he stopped being involved in the series after Season 4 Episode 7, "The Bear and the Maiden Fair." He made his hands off from the series when it sped past the book material.
Martin's departure resulted in rumors that he was disappointed with Weiss and Benioff's take of the series, as they focused more on CGI spectacles than character development. Whether the rumors are true or not, Martin seemed to be once again energized with Game of Thrones Prequel. He even talked about it and posted some details on his website, Not a Blog.
Now, he played a major role in the prequel. He is involved in the casting and other development processes. The 70-year-old star suggested its title to be The Longest Night.
Martin will also share some of the writing duties to the show, although the show's teleplay will be credited to Goldman. However, he will also lend a hand to later episodes once it is officially greenlit.
Game of Thrones Prequel has wrapped up its filming for the pilot, which took place in Gaeta, Italy, and Belfast. But, HBO has yet to announce when the series will be out.
