The sixth season of The 100 recently ended, but The CW made sure the series would be coming back for another season. But while The 100 season 7 has been confirmed, the upcoming season will also be the show's final installment. Here's what we know so far about the seventh season.

In April 2019, The CW made a bold move as it renewed The 100 season 7, which is one week before the premiere of the sixth season. It's reportedly rare for the network to renew a program ahead of time as it usually waits until the season is at least midway through its run or nearing its finale before making an announcement.

At the time of the renewal, many speculated the seventh season would be the series' last since it was renewed early. As it turns out, that speculation became true, and the news was confirmed during The CW's TCA presentation in August 2019. Series creator John Rothenberg also revealed via social media the upcoming installment would be the last one for the series.

Rothenberg made it clear it was a "creative decision" to end the show, and it wasn't just dictated by the network. In a report via TVLine, he explained that he already planned season 7 would be the series' last, and the news was only confirmed by The CW head Mark Pedowitz.

Right now, The 100 season 7 has no official release date. But, it can be recalled that season 5 and season 6 premiered towards the end of April 2019 and 2018, respectively. Thus, it's very likely the seventh season will also air around that same month in 2020.

However, The 100 season 7 will reportedly consist of 16 episodes for the first time since the third season, so some believed The CW would release the upcoming installment in March 2020 to accommodate more time.

As for the plot of The 100 season 7, it would probably focus on the anomaly that was briefly explored in the sixth season, especially now that Hope (Diyoza's daughter) becomes an adult and Octavia is gone - or possibly dead. It seems like time does not flow similarly like the rest of the planet, so it's interesting to see how everyone comes together for the series finale.

Meanwhile, The 100 is among the shows that are going to end or already over at The CW; joining Supernatural, Arrow, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, and iZombie.
