There will be new faces coming to Glow Season 3 as it is now nearing its release on Netflix. After Alison Brie, who plays Ruth, teased it would be the most dangerous season, newcomer Geena Davis revealed how it would tackle ageism.
The new season will continuously tackle sexual harassment, gender equality, pay parity, and more. Now that Davis comes, Entertainment Weekly noted it is the show's perfect take on ageism.
Davis will play the role of Devereaux St. Clair in Glow Season 3. She is a former showgirl that turned out to be an entertainment director at the Fan-Tan Hotel and Casino.
Now that the girls move to Las Vegas in the new season and headlines the Fan-Tan, Clair may become their new mentor. As a veteran performer, the show doesn't only find a way to make her relevant despite her age but also shows females can have a higher position in the business at this time. The series is set in the 1980s.
In an interview with Davis, she told EW she quickly got hooked on the idea of joining Glow Season 3 after learning she would play the role of a former showgirl. She even got interested in her character description, which is someone who managed to change her life and stay in the industry as a woman in charge.
Indeed, a lot of showgirls are gone when they aged. Clair, on the other hand, would remain and be able to get a higher position.
"I was very excited about my character modeling future success to the women in the troupe," she said. "I can stand as an example for them as a potential future and be someone who carefully and ferociously made her way to much greater success."
The show has been taking its characters to new extremes every season and Glow Season 3 will be no different. Brie revealed the new installment would be the "most dangerous" yet.
From local television shows, the girls would be performing on a Las Vegas stage show. Brie said the characters would be playing with the other sides of themselves this time as many people do.
She continued to say it would be like a departure from reality as they move to Las Vegas, and this place was no fantasy. But instead of living out of motels, the wrestlers would be staying in a hotel-casino in Glow Season 3, enjoying a luxurious life for the first time.
"The scale of everything is bigger because it's Las Vegas," Brie said. "The stakes have never been higher. People are taking bigger risks, and this season feels a little dangerous." Glow Season 3 is set to be out on Aug. 9 on Netflix.
