There is little doubt that the success of Bumblebee has kickstarted a new interest in the Transformers movies. After all, the film concluded with the Autobots arriving on Earth, hinting at more action as they protect the planet. So what are the chances that Michael Bay will once again take over to direct Transformers 7? There are speculations that the Bad Boys director is just finishing work on his new film Six Underground before getting started on the highly anticipated sequel.

Bumblebee was certainly different from the previous Transformers films since it served as a prequel that took place in 1987. Interestingly, the film was the first Transformers movie that was not directed by Michael Bay, and it somehow ensured the reboot of the franchise. Nevertheless, fans are already expecting Bay to direct the sequel that might focus on another Autobot. Interestingly, some even believe that the filmmaker might enlist Six Underground star Ryan Reynolds in the new movie.

The idea of Michael Bay and Ryan Reynolds working together certainly had people talking back in 2018. There was even a rumor that the two are collaborating on a Thundercats movie right before they began filming in Abu Dhabi, UAE last year. The speculations came from Bay's involvement in a live-action adaptation of the animated series. Sources claimed that "Six Underground" was a codename for the project to avoid leaks about the film.

However, it has since been revealed that Six Underground is a completely different film that involves six billionaires who form a vigilante squad. Nevertheless, people believe that Michael Bay might already be planning his next project, which could finally be Transformers 7. This time, the new Transformers movie could focus on Optimus Prime. Unfortunately, there have been no announcements yet about the sequel so it would be best to take this with a grain of salt.

Michael Bay's next confirmed film is Robopocalypse, an adaptation of the Daniel H. Wilson novel of the same name. It follows a group of people who have to work together as a rogue AI starts a war between humanity and robots. The movie will be produced by Steven Spielberg based on a screenplay penned by Drew Goddard. There has been no casting news for the sci-fi film yet.

Transformers 7 has not yet been confirmed to begin development. Meanwhile, Michael Bay's Six Underground is expected to premiere on Netflix later this year.
