Many fans are now excited about the upcoming return of Lee Min Ho to the small screens after serving for two years in the military. The 32-year-old former lover of Suzy Bae completed his mandatory military service on April 25, 2019. After finishing his duty as a public service officer at the Suseo Social Welfare Center in Gangnam District Office, the Hallyu superstar is set to face another challenge: a dual portrayal.

Previous reports revealed that Lee Min Ho would be portraying two characters in his upcoming new project called The King: The Eternal Monarch. According to reports, the series would be set in a parallel world. Emperor Lee Gon would try to close the doors of the other world after an evil god released the dark forces on humans. Detective Jung Tae Eul, who resides on the other side, would try to protect his loved ones.

Lee Min Ho would portray as Emperor Lee Gon and a yet-to-be-named detective. His co-star, Kim Go Eun, is said to have a dual character in The King: The Eternal Monarch. The 28-year-old South Korean actress would play as  Detective Jung Tae Eul in the Republic of Korea and a criminal named Luna in the other world. The Cheese in the Trap actress, previously, said she knows that her new roles would be tough, but she is up for the challenge.

Aside from Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun, other personalities set to appear on the upcoming The King: The Eternal Monarch series include Woo Do Hwan as Jo Eun Seob/Jo Young, Kim Kyung Nam as Kang Shin Jae, and Jung Eun Chae as Goo Seo Ryung. Baek Sang-Hoon would direct the imminent new television series.

Meanwhile, Lee Min Ho is set to reunite with the writer of Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo's writer in Descendants of the Sun, Kim Eun Sook. The ex-lover of Suzy Bae and the highly-acclaimed writer first worked together in the 2013 hit series titled The Heirs. Eun Sook also wrote the script of other successful television series such as Mr. Sunshine (2018), Goblin (2017), A Gentleman's Dignity (2012), Secret Garden (2010), City Hall (2009), and Lovers in Paris (2004). The upcoming series, also, marks the reunion of Kim Eun Sook and Baek Sang-Hoon.
