Avid followers of the Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell-led series have been waiting for the release of Prison Break Season 6. Fox, previously, confirmed that the popular American television serial drama would return for another installment after the fifth season. But, is Season 6 still happening after Disney acquired the American free-to-air television network?

Unfortunately, it seems like Prison Break Season 6 is not hitting the small screens anytime soon yet. Though Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier said, in February, that it is happening, he confirmed recently that the imminent sixth installment is not yet in development despite the show's undeniable success in 2017.

"There's no plan right now to revive Prison Break or any of the other franchises, but when the creators come with a story that they think is the right time to tell, we are so ready to listen because those are some franchises of which I'm so proud and feel so fortunate that they're in our stable," Charlie stated. The official page of the Prison Break Writers confirmed that Prison Break Season 6 is not happening at the moment.

"Hi, Prison Breakers! I'm just dropping in to share some bummer news. Nothing is ever dead (remember when Sara was decapitated?), but for now, the elusive season 6 is not in the cards. But we love you and are so grateful for all of you. #PrisonBreak," the series writers wrote on a Twitter post on Aug. 9. If Prison Break Season 6 would push through, there is a possibility that series creator Paul Scheuring would have to do a plot makeover, especially since it transferred to another studio.

Before Fox confirmed that Prison Break Season 6 is not yet in the works, rumors suggested that it would be the series' last installment. Previous reports claimed that the upcoming sixth installment would be a brand-new iteration of the show. It was also reported that Michael J. Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) are up for new adventures.

Predictions suggested that Prison Break Season 6 would center on the life of Wentworth Miller after he was freed from jail. Reports have it that Michael J. Scofield would have to do a lot of adjustments in the imminent installment due to the trauma he experienced in the past.

In December 2018, Dominic Purcell confirmed, via an Instagram post, that the series cast and crew have started filming for the sixth installment already. Series lead stars Wentworth Miller, and Dominic Purcell have yet to comment on the show's latest update. Stay tuned to Business Times for the latest news and updates about Prison Break Season 6!
