Is there still hope for a Magi season 3? Fans of the anime television series, which was also titled Magi: The Kingdom of Magic, cannot help but clamor for a follow-up after 25 episodes. It was composed of two seasons, which aired from 2012 to 2014 in Japan, the U.S. and the U.K.
Magi season 3 would have been an excellent opportunity to close the story of the anime properly. However, it doesn't look like there are any more materials from creator Shinobu Ohtaka.
Ohtaka released the last volume of the Magi manga in 2017 with issue 37. But the show has gone through the whole catalog, adapting the story in both mangas for Magi season 1 and 2.
The creator hasn't been vocal about her plans for the manga series. Thus, without the source material, some fans believe that Magi season 3 won't likely happen.
A fan discussion on Reddit also stated that it's a common trend in anime, where the story isn't always finished and there's usually not a third season. Thus, it seems like a requirement for the fans to read the manga if they want to know what really happened and get some closure.
Magi season 1 and 2 were produced and developed by A-1 Pictures. In the U.S., the episodes ran in streaming platforms like Hulu and Crunchyroll. The show largely follows the story of the classic book "1001 Arabian Nights," thus it featured characters like Aladdin, Ali Baba, and Sinbad.
Set in an Old World where magic exists, humans during this time possessed the power called Rukh that triggers a rebirth when they die. They are free to use this power to harness the energy called Magoi with care. The more they care and harness this energy, the powerful it becomes. However, anger, sadness, and negative emotions may corrupt the Rukh.
Magi season 1 is led by a character named Aladdin who meets Ali Baba. After they become friends, the two made a pact to hunt for treasures in Amon and beat Jamil and his warriors.
While there, Aladdin and Ali Baba encounter Morgiana, who has been bonded in chains. Djinn Amon also appears in front of Aladdin to tell him that he's a Magi and that he should be helping the king. The anime saw through the adventures of the three friends to defeat evil spirits.
The general reception for the anime was so positive that it also spanned a game series. Alas, the source materials final serialization year took place in 2017 after eight years in circulation.
