Madam Secretary season 6 will open with a big-time jump where Tea Leoni's character, Elizabeth McCord, has become the President of the United States. And as it is customary for many presidents before her, a scene in the second episode will find the new leader of the free world making her first pitch at a baseball game in New York City.
According to the episode synopsis, Elizabeth will throw out her very first pitch amid a public protest against the cost of fuel. Madam Secretary season 6 episode 2 filmed this scene with the real players from the Mets and the Indians at the Citi Field in the Big Apple in August.
Leoni shared to TV Line that she was sweating a lot during the production because she was so nervous about making the pitch as perfect as possible. She described this experience as the "second most terrifying day" of her life as an actress, especially when she felt pressured to get it right.
"I would rather have a root canal, naked, in Grand Central," the actress said. "It was very important to me that as the first female president, it was gonna get to the plate."
Madam Secretary season 6 episode 2 will air on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 10:30 p.m. The episode is titled "The Strike Zone," which will also find Mike B. (played by Kevin Rahm) at the Senate Intelligence Committee panel to explain accusations that Elizabeth conspired with Iranians to win as president.
The producers also shared that it will be quite a different Madam Secretary season 6 when the show comes back. The tone of the show will feel like a new series, and there will be some major casting changes, per executive producer Barbara Hall.
Rahm has been promoted as series regular, as well as Erich Bergen (as Blake), now that they have cushier positions in Elizabeth's administration. On the other hand, it was announced that Sara Ramirez would not return as a regular star, along with Geoffrey Arend (as Matt), Sebastian Arcelus (as Jay), Evan Roe (as Jason), Katherine Herzer (as Alison) and Keith Carradine (as former President Dalton).
Madam Secretary season 6 is the final installment for this CBS political drama. The network has ordered a shortened 10-episode run for its last season.
