Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo are considered as two of the most bankable stars in South Korea today. Before they tied the knot and end up with a shocking split, the pair starred in various television shows that cemented them to become breakthrough Asian superstars. Though Joong Ki and Hye Kyo cited personality differences as the primary reason behind their divorce, the former couple still has something in common: their love for skating.

Before Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo became big stars that they are today, they never saw themselves acting and performing in front of the cameras. When they were younger, the Descendants of the Sun stars love hanging in a skating rink as they both aspired to become professional skaters at the time.

Song Joong Ki, originally, wanted to become a short track speed skater ever since he was a kid. As a matter of fact, the 33-year-old South Korean star competed in many sports events. The ex-husband of Song Hye Kyo even represented Daejeon at the national level.

However, everything changed when Song Joong Ki got a serious injury in high school. The Arthdal Chronicles lead star, then, decided to give up his dreams and pursue another field instead. The ex-lover of Song Hye Kyo, fortunately, landed a role in the 2009 South Korean television series called Triple, which also starred Min Hyo Rin, Lee Ha Na, Lee Sun Kyun, Yoon Kye Sang, and Lee Jung Jae. Joong Ki's skills in skating were put in good use when he portrayed the role of Ji Poong Ho, who is an aspiring young skater.

Song Hye Kyo, for her part, was originally trained to become a professional figure skater when she was in the primary school. However, the ex-wife of Song Joong Ki decided to quit before she entered secondary school. The 37-year-old, then, found herself enrolling into modeling contests where she usually takes home the bacon.

The Encounter actress won in the SunKyung Smart Model Contest in 1996. Song Hye Kyo, then, made her entertainment debut as a model for a school uniform company and landed roles in First Love and Soonpong Clinic. The first major lead role of Song Joong Ki's former ladylove was in the 2000 KBS drama titled Autumn in My Heart, where she starred alongside Won Bin.

Now, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo are already considered as two of the most popular South Korean stars of their generation. Though they just went through a rough split, the duo continues to make headlines due to their upcoming new projects or by simply showing up in events. Up until now, neither of the two Hallyu superstars has commented about their divorce.

Joong Ki is said to be working on his new project called Victory, while Hye Kyo is, currently, on a temporary hiatus after their divorce. The Full House actress would, reportedly, go back to filming in early 2020 to finish her other commitments.
