The Winds of Winter is, undeniably, one of the most-awaited books today. The sixth volume of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series was announced in 2011 and faced countless delays due to various reasons. Now, fans are wondering if George R.R. Martin would still be able to finish TWOW and A Dream of Spring novels.

The release date of The Winds of Winter has become the subject of intense scrutiny. Initially, the sixth novel of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series was scheduled for release in 2017. However, George R.R. Martin made another prediction and said that TWOW could arrive in late 2018 or early 2019 - which, clearly, did not happen - due to his hectic schedule.

George R.R. Martin, also, debunked the claims saying that he is finished writing The Winds of Winter already. "I don't know which story is more absurd, the one that says the book is finished and I've been sitting on it for some nefarious reason, or the one that says I have no pages," the 70-year-old American novelist wrote on his blog. "Both 'reports' are equally false and equally moronic," he went on.

The veteran author emphasized that he is yet to complete The Winds of Winter, adding that he is still "months away" from finishing the entire novel. One of the primary reasons behind the book's delay is the fact that the A Song of Ice and Fire book series changed a lot since Game of Thrones became the biggest television series in the world.

Originally, George R.R. Martin planned to write a trilogy. However, due to the demand of his Game of Thrones novels, the plot grew along with the number of books. The storyline kept on stretching that things became more complicated even for the A Song of Ice and Fire book series author. There are even reports saying that The Winds of Winter would have a total of 15 to 20 point-of-view characters.

Because of this, there have been reports saying that the television show and the book series' ending might be different - with several characters still alive in the novels. Aside from the fact that the series and novels are opposing mediums, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss were forced to speed up the storyline and character developments so they could narrate the stories into eight installments they had to work with.

While George R.R. Martin had no interest in competing with Dan Weiss and David Benioff, the American writer, admitted that he is struggling to finish the A Song of Ice and Fire book series. GRRM, however, predicted to, finally, publish TWOW on or before July 2020. Stay tuned to Business Times for the latest news and updates about The Winds of Winter!
