Fans may not see Alison (Sasha Pieterse), Mona (Janel Parrish), Taylor (Hayley Erin) and the rest of the cast in Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionist Season 2. Freeform has canceled the show for some unknown reason, but it is strongly believed it is because of its low ratings.
The show is the spinoff series of the iconic Pretty Little Liars, which ran from 2010 to 2017. Here, the fan-favorites Alison and Mona from Rosewood, Pa., moved to Beacon Heights, Ore., where they get involved in another murder mystery.
Of course, as this is a new world, there are new faces introduced. Sofia Carson joined the show as the aspiring fashion designer Ava, Sydney Park as the future politician Caitlin, Hayley Erin as the presumed-death Taylor, Kelly Rutherford as Taylor's mother, Claire, and Eli Brown as the cellist Dylan.
Unfortunately, fans will never get to see their story continue in Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionist Season 2. Aside from the main mystery of Nolan's (Chris Mason) killer, the Season 1 finale introduced another riddle that the girls need to solve, per TVLine. Someone with the name of "The Professor" knew that Taylor shot Caitlin's (Sydney Park) boyfriend, Jeremy (Graeme Thomas King).
They are now exploiting the group using "everyone's greatest fears." So, what would happen from here?
As Freeform chose not to renew the show, it remained to be seen if the new season would see the light of the day. Deadline added there were high expectations for the spinoff, which was based on the famed book series The Perfectionist by the Pretty Little Liars author Sara Shepard.
Unfortunately, it didn't manage even to get close to the original series' blockbuster ratings success and social media popularity. Season 1 only averaged to 260,000 Live+Same Day viewers and a 0.12 rating in adults 18-49. Hence, Freeform's decision to cancel the show might be because it "didn't make up for the modest live viewing with substantial DVR and streaming bumps."
Aside from Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionist Season 2, The Fosters spinoff Good Trouble and Marvel's Cloak and Dagger are still waiting for renewal decisions. However, it looks like they are all good for Season 3 orders.
Meanwhile, during a post-finale interview, showrunner Marlene King was a little coy about the supposedly new season's antagonist. She only said that someone whose name is "The Professor" is somebody who "lives in a world of the school." So, fans have to wait and see if ever Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionist Season 2 will be picked up by another network or a streaming website.
