Riverdale Season 4 is almost upon us and fans are now undoubtedly excited for what is about to come. To thrill viewers more, the show's episode titles and synopses have emerged online, revealing what is going to happen to the much-loved series.
It has been earlier revealed that the upcoming season's first episode would honor the late Luke Perry, who played Fred Andrews. Titled "In Memoriam," it would pay tribute to the actor himself and his character after his unexpected passing in March. Here, as the residents prepare for the coming Independence Day parade, Archie (K.J. Apa) will receive a phone call that will change his life forever.
The second episode will bear the title "Fast Times at Riverdale High." It will be a reference to Amy Heckerling's 1982 coming-of-age comedy film, Fast Times at Ridgemont High. As the movie tells the story of the high school students looking for love and trapped in romantic problems, does this hint there will be new romances brewed?
In Riverdale Season 4 Episode 3, titled "Dog Day Afternoon," Express noted it is another nod to a classic film with the same title starring Al Pacino. As the movie is a neo-noir crime drama, it may be about Jughead's (Cole Sprouse) disappearance that has been hinted in the trailer.
Episode 4, "Halloween," will be the Halloween episode of the series. Episode 5, "Witness for the Prosecution," hints there will be a court scene just like Agatha Christie's short story, which it is said to be based on.
In Episode 6, "Hereditary," it seems to imply the family drama that is a usual scene on the show. Lastly, Riverdale Season 4 Episode 7, "The Ice Storm," may hint a cold front coming to Riverdale or a problem that is going to arise.
In an interview with Us Weekly, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed the core four would be the "front and center" of Riverdale Season 4. "I guess the one thing that could break up the foursome, well, besides death, is something romantic happening. They're great friends," he said. "They've been through stuff no other friends have been through."
Aguirre-Sacasa also teased the mystery the new season has would be similar to what fans saw in Season 1, calling its plot a "slow burn." He, then, explained the reason behind it is so that they could tell character and friendship stories without the threat of getting killed. Of course, there would be villains in the series, but it would be different from the antagonists they have ever done before.
Riverdale Season 4 is set to be out on Wednesday, Oct. 9, on The CW and on Thursday, Oct. 10, on Netflix. The succeeding episodes will be out week after week.
