Following US President Donald Trump's relentless accusations against former Vice President Joe Biden and his family's involvement in a Chinese-backed private equity firm, Hunter Biden has reportedly stepped down from his board position in the aforementioned company. Joe Biden's son also openly promised to forego any involvement in the company if his father elected president next year.

The announcement to halt any activities that would potentially be seen as a conflict of interest by the younger Biden was made through a statement released by the family's lawyer Gorger Mesires. According to the statement, Hunter Biden will apparently be resigning from the Chinese-backed private equity fund by the end of the month.

The decision to vacate his position was made partly due to Trump's "unsubstantiated" accusations against the family, which included alleged corruption and clear conflict of interest.

Apart from his exit from the company, Hunter also vowed to stop working for any foreign-owned companies or to serve any executive positions for those companies if his father is elected. Hunter also clarified that he currently does not discuss any of his business-related activities with his father.

In the statement, it was explained that Joe Biden was never influenced by his son's professional interests. However, the family did not expect the barrage of false accusations against them by the US president. Trump along with his personal lawyer previously accused the family of making millions of dollars from Chinese deals.

Earlier this month, Trump even called on China to conduct an investigation into Biden and his family's activities. China's foreign ministry outright denied Trump's request and mentioned that the country does not want to interfere with the internal affairs of the United States.

As the 2020 presidential campaign heats up, Trump's attempts to place the Biden in a bad light have intensified. Trump has pointed out Biden's past work with China and Ukraine as clear signs of corruption. Trump accused Biden of abusing his position to obtain wealth through various deals made by him and his family members. So far, Trump and his associates have yet to provide any concrete evidence to support their accusations.

The newly released statement from Biden's camp sought to clarify the family's involvement with both China and Ukraine. It was explained that the allegations of Hunter Biden's involvement in one of Ukraine's biggest private gas firms had predated his actual taking of the position as one of its board members.

It was also stated that during his five-year term with Burisma, Biden was never found to have engaged in any unlawful activities.
