It has been more than 70 years since Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip got married. Ever since they became the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, the two used to perform state visits to do their royal duties together. Their first royal tour was in Australia and who could forget the way the Duke of Edinburgh lovingly stared at the monarch when she graced the state opening of Parliament House in Hobart in 1954.

Queen Elizabeth was scheduled to visit Australia in 1952. At the time, she was only a Princess. However, the trip was canceled after her father, King George VI, died. Her succession to the throne was also set in the same year.

A year after her coronation in 1953, Her Majesty became the first reigning monarch that visited Australia, the "farthest reaches of the Commonwealth." Everyone who wanted to see the Queen in her royal splendor saw her for the first time, per New Idea.

At the state opening, she arrived wrapped in fur, donning her diamond tiara. In the state dinner at David Jones ballroom in Sydney, she wore a custom gown specially made for the event.

Everybody was in awe with the young Queen Elizabeth's magnificence. Of course, her husband couldn't help but lovingly stare at his wife. The monarch looked a fragile, fairy-like picture of beauty, and breathtakingly lovely.

She donned a pale gold gown with intricate embroidery and the blue sash of the Order of the Garter. Her diamond tiara beautifully flashed on her head, while her necklace seemed to spark liquid flames. Everyone who saw her couldn't help but sigh at her stunning look.

Queen Elizabeth made a total of 16 visits in Australia, while Prince Philip also made some trips to the country to represent the sovereign. The two made sure to stop in rural towns, big cities, and every state and territory in the Down Under whenever they were together.

"I am convinced that Australia has a glorious future," Queen Elizabeth said in her farewell speech. "This visit has been the most interesting and enjoyable to me, but I also hope it has served to remind you of the wonderful heritage we share."

Queen Elizabeth already halted her frequent visits. Prince Philip, on the other hand, retired from his royal duties. Hence, it's time for the younger royals to visit other nations on their behalf. Recently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were in South Africa, while Prince William and Kate Middleton are currently in Pakistan.
