Kate Middleton and Prince William are currently in Pakistan for a state visit. But, in the middle of their tour, unearthed reports emerged that the royal couple angered Prince Charles during their visit to Canada in 2011.
According to Express, a 2011 report revealed Prince Charles was concerned about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's glamorous image in Canada that might overshadow other senior royals' work. Allegedly, the Prince of Wales told Palace aides his son and his wife's trip focused mostly on media coverage and not the exact reason why they were in the foreign country.
The state visit was even dubbed as the "William and Kate Show," as hundreds of thousands of Canadian people went out of their way to meet the royals. At the time, they could be seen on every TV network and newspaper as they reached the public and celebrities. Some figures they met were David Beckham, Nicole Kidman, Tom Hanks, and Jennifer Lopez.
Although Prince Charles felt delighted that Prince William and Kate Middleton received the same welcome he and Princess Diana got in their 1983 Canada tour, he couldn't help but compare his experience with Camilla two years ago. At the time, the two only attracted small crowds and modest coverage.
Hence, a royal insider revealed Prince Charles is now looking for a makeover to attract more fans. Royal author Philip Dampier even said after he felt being overshadowed by Princess Diana when she was still alive, he now feels the same thing with his son.
Some people might think Prince Charles is jealous but, as soon as Prince William married Kate, Dampier believed the heir to the throne would feel sidelined. "From that moment people would be less interested in what he has to say on issues such as the environment and architecture," he said. "If, on the same day, Kate is wearing a new dress."
Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate are now in Pakistan for their first royal tour in the region. The visit started on Oct. 14 and would end on Oct. 18. According to reports, this state visit is the riskiest engagement they have to date due to the political tensions and security concerns.
Despite that, the Cambridges received praises from all over the world for their kind words and outfits. The two prepared for the state visit for wearing clothes matching the Pakistani flag. The government of Pakistan hopes their arrival will help boost the country's image as a tourist spot and business destination amidst the decades of violence and political issues.
