There are so many things that you can call your lover, fiancee, or husband — love, sweetheart, darling, honey, etc. With all the choices, “sir” is certainly not the most popular one, and is definitely pretty bizarre.

But, previous reports revealed that Princess Diana called Prince William “sir” before they got married. Now, another royal revealed that she was forced to do the same thing.

In the book “My Story,” Sarah Ferguson shared that before she and Prince Andrew tied the knot, she had to call Queen Elizabeth’s second son “sir.” Fergie called the Duke of York that way for the first six months of their relationship until their wedding day.

Despite that, it seems that Sarah Ferguson didn’t mind the royal protocol and probably felt that Prince Andrew was worth it. “When I turned to face Andrew, I was struck by how handsome he was in his morning suit, and soon my worries had flown. Andrew was easy, and I felt relaxed with him, for me a rare condition – even though I addressed him as ‘Sir,’ as per protocol,” she said.

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson knew each other since childhood. The Duke and Duchess of York eventually became a couple, got engaged in March 1986, and tied the knot in July that year. They share two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Just like any other couple, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson dealt with some marital issues. However, they were unable to settle and fix them. Fergie, reportedly, couldn't handle the fact that her husband was far away from her for long periods while he was completing his royal duties. As a result, the Duke and Duchess of York announced their separation in March 1992.

There are a lot of divorced couples who work well together as friends than spouses — Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew are the best examples. Even their daughters noticed this that Princess Beatrice described her parents as “best-divorced couple in the world.”

For now, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson are not back together. But, their relationship has definitely changed for the better. Despite being separated for two decades, a sexual health and relationship expert shares that it’s “entirely possible” that they may have rekindled their relationship over the years. “Had the relationship rekindled? Entirely possible. I think it’s clear that there are still feelings there between them,” Kyle Sowden told Express.
