It has been more than 20 years since the death of Princess Diana shocked the world. However, if the tragic car accident happened today, would the Princess of Wales survive? With the advancement of technology and the massive improvement of vehicles these days, there is a big chance that the death of the People's Princess could have been avoided.

One of the factors that, reportedly, played a role in Princess Diana's death is her driver, Henri Paul, who was said to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol when the accident happened. Today, there have been serious efforts to reduce drunk-driving incidents that can result in a severe car crash.

The European Transport Safety Council revealed alcohol-related road deaths already declined by 47 percent between 2006 and 2016. Hence, the numbers might be higher from the time Princess Diana died until today.

Also, cars built today are safer compared to the ones made 22 years ago. Vehicles today have more safety features to make sure the one behind the wheel and all the people inside the car are safe. It is car companies' utmost initiative to make the ride safe for everyone.

Consumers used to opt for luxury back in the early days. However, as things are continuously changing, car companies are now more focused on adding safety features to boost car sales.

There are new features like blind spot sensors and automatic front and rear braking. Speed monitors and strict seat belt alarms are also now being used to help reduce the number of car accidents through the years, per Cheat Sheet.

Unfortunately, when Princess Diana died, she reportedly wasn't wearing her seatbelt, which could have saved her life. At the time, the car she was riding might likely don't have a seat belt alarm feature that reminded passengers to buckle up. Also, if it had speed sensors like most cars have today, Paul might be alerted that he was driving too fast and needed to slow down.

Although we can't be assured that Princess Diana would have survived the car crash if it happened at the present time, there is a big possibility that she might make it alive with all the car developments nowadays. A big car development already happened between 1997 and 2019.

People are, now, more cautious about impaired driving and vehicle safety. If the tragic incident that caused  Princess Diana's life occured at the present day, the aftermath could have been minor or prevented altogether. If all the factors that led to her death had been avoided with the new car features these days, the People's Princess might still be alive.
