After years of marriage with Prince Charles and being a member of the royal family, Camilla Parker Bowles remains the same person she is perceived by many before and after Princess Diana's death. Many netizens believe that she is not fit to be the next Queen.
A royal fan posted a question on the online forum site Quora on whether or not the site users think Camilla is a nice person. Many gave harsh answers mainly because of her role in Prince Charles and Princess Diana's divorce.
One netizen commented that she believes Camilla is not an evil but she is not an innocent, down-to-Earth romantic heroine either. The commenter said the Duchess of Cornwall is not a guilt-free woman who waited for Charles to divorce Diana before she started a relationship with the future king.
"[Camilla] she's not the "homely," innocent, single, down-to-Earth romantic heroine who waited quietly in the wings that some Charles apologists try to fancy her out to be. Camilla is very shallow, rather vain and not very resourceful," the fan wrote.
Another netizen claimed the Duchess of Cornwall is also not a good mother to her own child. The commenter said the cheating scandal that Charles and Camilla created had a huge impact on the latter's son. Apparently, Camilla's son got bullied in school because of her affair with Charles and eventually needed rehab because of addiction to alcohol.
Another Quora user believes Camilla will never be "a good person" in the eyes of the public because of what happened to Charles and Diana's marriage. The royal fan said Camilla took advantage of her friendship with Charles and the royal family to develop a romantic relationship with the Prince of Wales.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana separated in 1992 after 11 years of marriage. Diana revealed Charles's affair with Camilla in a book by Andrew Morton, Diana, Her True.
In an interview in 1994, Charles admitted that his extramarital affair with Camilla. The Prince claimed that, at the time, he rekindled his association with Parker-Bowles in 1986 only after his marriage to Diana had "irretrievably broken down." Two years later, Charles and the Princess of Wales' divorce was finalized.
Diana's tragic death in 1997 halted Camilla's gradual descent into the public eye as the new woman in Charles' life. Charles and Camilla first appeared in public together in early 1999 and met Princes William and Harry later that same year.
It was only in 2000 when Camilla was able to meet and shake hands with Prince Charles' mother, Queen Elizabeth II and, from there on, she became a constant figure on the prince's side. In 2005, the Prince of Wales finally put a ring on Camilla's finger.
