Better Call Saul season 5 will be arriving in 2020, but details about the upcoming installment remain scarce at the moment. Recently, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie has been released, and it raises some major questions, including the possible appearance of Bryan Cranston's character in the series.
Cranston, who played Walter White, surprised many fans as he returns in the, recently, released Netflix film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. In an interview with the Entertainment Weekly, the actor talked about the secrecy in getting him to appear in the movie.
He also said that he's open to coming back to the role of Walt in Better Call Saul season 5. However, he admitted that he didn't spend much time as to why he's away from the franchise. Cranston revealed the only time he thinks about his character appearing in the series is when he gets asked about it.
Better Call Saul co-creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould are protective of their characters and story, according to the actor. He said that, if there's a possibility his character will return in Better Call Saul season 5, then he's willing to show up as Walt. But, if it doesn't happen, Cranston said he's still fine with it.
In another related report, there were also questions about the potential cameo of Aaron Paul's character, Jesse Pinkman, in Better Call Saul season 5. Before the release of El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, it feels like the character will have a cameo in the series at some point.
Right now, however, it seems like the potential cameo may not happen at all. In an interview with Digital Spy and other media outlets, Paul made it clear that there's no reason for his character to appear in the series, considering the ending of the film.
The actor initially thought he would come back as Jesse in Better Call Saul season 5. However, the flash-forwards in the previous seasons likely indicated there's no reason for him to return, especially now knowing where his character is. Paul added that he couldn't imagine Jesse appearing in the series.
Perhaps, we can see the character in Better Call Saul season 5 if it's going to feature the timeline during the Breaking Bad era. It could feature a scene involving him, Saul, and Walt that we didn't previously see in the series. However, such scenes do not give much of a benefit in the series since we've already seen Jesse and Walt elsewhere.
