Meghan Markle is often the subject of public and media scrutiny nowadays. The Duchess of Cambridge even discussed her bad experience with the press, which her British friends already warned her about. In the controversial ITV documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, the former actress revealed that her pals advised her not to marry Prince Harry due to the attention she would receive.

Meghan and her husband opened up about their media struggles in the emotional documentary. Knowing how the British press works, her friends in England already foresaw the scrutiny she was about to experience, per CNBC. Hence, they warned her about marrying the Duke of Cambridge as the attention she would get as a duchess would be far more than worse than being an actress.

The former Suits star said that, when she met Prince Harry, her friends were as happy as her. However, her British pals were, reportedly, a little bit concerned when she got linked to the duke. "I'm sure he's great, but you shouldn't do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life," her friends told her.

As an American, Meghan Markle admitted that she was naïve about how the British press works. She didn't understand what they were talking about, and it made no sense for her as she wasn't even in the tabloids before.

Now, when she married Prince Harry in 2018 and gave birth to their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, she has been getting a significant amount of attention and negative remarks. As these criticisms undoubtedly affect her life, the documentary host, Tom Bradby, asked her about the impact of press intrusion on her mental and physical health.

At the time, Meghan Markle was still pregnant so she felt vulnerable with all the scrutiny. "And then when you have a newborn, and especially as a woman it's really, it's a lot," she explained. It was a hard experience for the mother-of-one to go through, while still trying to adopt her new life as a newly-wed and new mother. She even thanked Brady for asking her well-being for not so many people checked if she's OK.

To counteract the media attacks, Meghan and Prince Harry sued the British press, despite the royals' "long-held unofficial motto of never complain, never explain." According to Express, the day before the Sussexes returned to the U.K. from their 10-day Africa tour, Harry revealed a legal claim against the Mail on Sunday.

The publication, reportedly, misused her private information when it published some lines from Meghan's letter to her estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr. In addition, Prince Harry also made a lengthy, emotional statement about the "private suffering" of her wife due to the media scrutiny.
