Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, is one of today's fashion icons and she seems to make looking good so effortless. However, a style expert said that Prince William's wife may be pressured to be stylish to live up to the image of Princess Diana, the Duke of Cambridge's late mother who was once regarded as one of the most fashionable women in modern history.
Andrea Levinthal said, via Daily Express, that no other woman feels more pressured when picking clothes to wear than Prince William's wife. Aside from living up to her husband's mother, Kate Middleton has to look presentable because she is the future Queen of England.
The duchess, however, learned over the years that her choice of clothes and style must always have a sense of purpose. She steps out in public looking "perfectly tailored, elegant and appropriate," said Levinthal.
Kate Middleton's style choices are deliberately decided to give honor to her husband's late mother. It's a huge advantage that she pulls it off without any problem.
Michelle Tauber, a royal commentator, also noted that the Duchess of Cambridge always makes it a point to acknowledge Princess Diana in her manning of dressing. This was evident from the moment she joined the royal family.
After giving birth to Prince George, the duchess wore a blue and white polka-dotted dress when she presented their first-born son to the public with her husband. This was inspired by Princess Diana's polka-dotted post-pregnancy dress when she gave birth to Prince William. In her recent trip to Pakistan, Kate also channeled her late mother-in-law by wearing a turquoise blue dress that had a similar color as Princess Diana's light blue suit when she visited the region over two decades ago.
In an old but rare television interview before she married Prince William, Kate said that she does not have any plans to dress up like Lady Diana. However, insiders claimed, in a Vanity Fair report in 2011, that the palace wanted her to be like the Princess of Wales. Royal biographer Katie Nicholl revealed, in her book, that, aside from her clothes, Kate was instructed to watch clips of Princess Diana and observe how she moved, smiled or alighted the car gracefully.
Now a mom of three and in her late '30s, Kate Middleton continues to exude the same stylish confidence as Princess Diana. She is also meeting a lot of expectations of how a future queen must look and appear in public.
