The Office of National Tax Administration in South Korea recently confirmed that it has launched an intensive tax investigation against the rapper Dok2 (real name Lee Jun-kyung).

The tax investigation of the rapper coincides with the date when the office launched a simultaneous tax investigation on 122 other high-income tax evaders with extravagant lifestyle.

According to the assessment agency and the entertainment industry, the tax office plans to mobilize Seoul Regional Tax Service investigative agents to conduct an investigation on the rapper's case by the beginning of next month.

The tax audit on Dok2 is an occasional tax audit, not a regular tax audit.

The office uses all available information provided by different tax related organizations and agencies as well as foreign exchange data. 122 high income earners who are suspected of tax evasion were selected after their charges were confirmed based on the data acquired.

The rapper could not escape from the scrutiny. Several citizens requested an investigation on the singer at the online board of the Blue House with a reason that Dok2 makes common people feel deprived. The netizen wrote, "I request a tax investigation on a hip-hop singer Dok2."

The petitioner who posted at the time said, "I saw a luxury supercar and luxury watch that the rapper posted on his SNS. I want to know if he pays tax. He says he spends 10 million won for his food monthly." "I do request an investigation on the rapper whose monthly food cost is 10 million won," added the netizen.

It is expected that the investigation will draw much attention as the high income earners including Dok2 will be scrutinized.

An official from the National Tax Service said, "The National Tax Service will minimize the burden of investigations on the majority of people who are working hard and are paying sincerely, but will continue to respond strictly to the tax evasion of high-income businesses that undermine the culture of tax payment."

The rapper Dok2, whose annual income is estimated to be at least 2 billion won, has been showing his lavish life with photos of luxurious watches, shoes, and automobiles in his personal social media and media.
