Fresh after confirmation from SM Entertainment that EXO is making a comeback before the end of the year, the label dropped the logo for EXO's upcoming album and announced the release date.
The logo features two black flags positioned in an X, with a gray stripe on the left flag to imitate an E. The black flag serves as the O. Like previous comeback logos, it is another creative depiction of the EXO logo.
According to a report by Soompi, EXO's upcoming full album will be entitled Obsession and will include 10 tracks of songs with mixed genres. It will also be released on Nov. 27, which happens to be Chanyeol's birthday. A countdown clock has also been posted on EXO's official website to get fans more excited about the new music.
Unfortunately, this is the first time that EXO will release an album with some members enlisted in the military. It can be recalled that the eldest member Xiumin and D.O. began their mandatory service this year. With members scheduled to enlist in the following years, it is expected that it will take a long time before EXO returns as a complete unit.
On the other hand, the comeback album will be a much-anticipated reunion for Baekhyun, Kai and the rest of their EXO members. It can be recalled that the two members were tapped to join the new idol group SuperM, along with SHINEE's Taemin, NCT's Taeyong and Mark, as well as WayV's Lucas and Ten.
When Baekhyun and Kai joined the new group, EXO-Ls immediately expressed apprehension that SuperM's activities will cause conflict with EXO activities because of their jam-packed promotion in the US.
Kai allayed fears of their EXO-L fandom and assured them that he and Baekhyun will give their all in promoting for both groups. He further said that activities of EXO and SuperM will not overlap.
The news of EXO's comeback comes as a breath of fresh air after a string of bad news affecting the K-Pop industry this year. It can be recalled that scandals rocked YG Entertainment's boy groups BIGBANG and iKON when Seungri and BI were dragged into controversy. Seungri was tagged in prostitution and illegal gambling allegations while BI was forced to leave iKON when he was accused of attempting to purchase drugs.
Most recently, MONSTA X's Wonho and Shownu were also implicated in scandals. Shownu was accused of having an affair with a married woman while Wonho chose to leave the group after he was accused of owing Jung Dae Eun 30 million won and having a history in a juvenile detention center, CNA reported.
