Prince Charles is said to be the least favorite member of the royal family. A recent survey even concluded that he should just pass the crown to his eldest son, Prince William. As the Prince of Wales is set to inherit the throne, will he be an effective king when the time comes?
A royal fan started a discussion on Quora, asking if Prince Charles will be an effective king when he takes the throne from Queen Elizabeth II. It has been known that the British public doesn't really like the idea of seeing him becoming a monarch someday due to the belief that the "younger, fresher blood" is more needed to put some life in an old institution.
Anni Selby believed that Prince Charles is still haunted by his divorce from Princess Diana and her death. A lot of people, too, are not fond of Camilla Parker Bowles. The Princess of Wales is said to have a powerful influence on the heir of the throne, and it remains to be seen if her impact will be positive or negative.
Nonie Westbourne deemed that Prince Charles might not be an effective king. The former HR Change Manager described him as a weak man, as seen by his reaction to the harsh regime at Goedonstoun, where Prince Phillip sent him to toughen up.
Westbourne added that Prince Charles clings to his royal status. Although many people admire his love for nature, some see him as "dopey" for talking to plants. Just like what Selby said, he also claimed that the biggest barrier to his success as a king is his failed marriage to Princess Diana.
Prince Charles knows that the British public is not fond of him. "I've gone on regardless of the endless criticism and carping and shouting and screaming, because I've always believed in the long term," he said in the two-part ITV documentary Prince Charles: Inside the Duchy of Cornwall, via E! News.
In a survey by Independent published in January, it revealed about 46 percent of the public believed Prince Charles should pass down the crown to Prince William when he already inherited the throne. However, around 29 percent didn't have an opinion about the matter. In YouGov's end-of-2018 likeability poll, only 48 percent had a positive opinion about the father-of-two.
Anyhow, royal fan Nigel Boon believed that Prince Charles would be an effective king. The 70-year-old royal has been in training since time immemorial to do the job well. Also, he is set to follow the same protocols that guided all the monarchs of Great Britain since the Restoration of Charles II. Chris Hawkes supported the claim and added that he would surely fulfill his constitutional obligations.
