Princess Charlotte is the only royal in the line of succession that possibly follows Queen Elizabeth II steps and becomes a Queen. She is the only female in the immediate heirs to the throne.

Prince William and Kate Middleton's second child and only daughter is, currently, fourth in the line of succession. After Queen Elizabeth II died, Charlotte's grandfather, Prince Charles will ascend to the throne. He will be succeeded by her father, Prince William, and then, his older brother, Prince George.

Charlotte becomes the fourth in line instead of her younger brother Prince Louis after the leaders of the Commonwealth agreed in 2011 that birth order, not gender, should determine the order of succession. Two years later, the Parliament passed the revised Succession to the Crown Act which made Charlotte the fourth to the throne and Louis at No. 5.

Despite the changes in the rule of succession, Charlotte still has a slim chance to be the Queen in the future. The four-year-old princess could only step higher in the hierarchy if something horrible happened to Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince George or all of them are unable to rule the monarch.

What makes it more unlikely for Charlotte to sit to the throne is the children of Prince George. In the future when George has his own children, they will bump Charlotte further down the line of succession.

This is the same thing that happened to Prince Harry. Prince William's children-George, Charlotte, and Louis-kicked him to the sixth place in the line from his earlier position of third place when William is still a bachelor.

It is also worthy to note the longevity of the royals. The Washington Post noted that the British monarch will be ruled by men for a long time. The publication said, if Prince George lives like his great grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, then, even if his first child is a daughter, it could be nearly a century before the world sees another British queen.

Despite her almost zero chance to rule the monarch, Princess Charlotte will still hold an important and high-profile title once her father becomes king. By then, she could become Princess Royal, a title that is given to the eldest daughter of the monarch. Queen Elizabeth II bestowed the title to Princess Anne in 1987.

However, it is also interesting to note that Princess Anne will hold the title for the rest of her life even when Queen Elizabeth II passes away. This means Charlotte can't assume the same title if her great aunt Anne is still alive.
