Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attended the 91st Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey ahead of their six-week break. As always, the two were well dressed as they honored the British servicemen who risked their lives for their own country.
The Sussexes paid tribute to the men who lost their lives at war. As someone who served the army for 10 years, Prince Harry donned a navy military uniform, while Meghan Markle opted for a matching coat, hat, and black heel boots.
According to Telegraph, the royal couple planted tiny crosses in the grounds of Westminster Abby to honor the country's ward dead. They, then, paid their respects to both servicemen and women who sacrificed themselves during the poignant ceremony at the Field of Remembrance.
It was the Duke of Sussex's seventh attendance to the event after he started presenting the royal family every year beginning in 2013. However, it was Meghan Markle's first time to witness the ceremony.
The Duchess of Sussex closed her eyes and bowed her head after laying her cross. She seemed to be lost in thoughts after the act. She then stood with her husband in silence as the bugler played the Last Post.
The first Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey in November 1928 only had two laid crosses. Now, the field is almost covered with around 70,000 symbols in over 360 plots for "regimental and other associations."
After the event and other royal engagements, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are going to take their six-week vacation in the United States. Radar Online noted that there are several reports that the Sussexes might be planning to move semi-permanently to the U.S. after deciding moving to Africa would be quite difficult for their family. Allegedly, they are feeling discontented living in England with all the criticisms being thrown at them.
The husband and wife will use their rest days to spend some quality time with Meghan Markle's family, especially with her mother, Doria Ragland. It will also be the first time that they will be celebrating Thanksgiving with their newborn child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, in Los Angeles.
The news about their solo getaway started to spread after they opened up about the continuous bullying they experience since they tied the knot last year. After their break, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will return to London to celebrate Christmas with Queen Elizabeth II and other royal family members in Norfolk at Sandringham.
