Unlike the rift rumors surrounding Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, Sarah Ferguson and Princess Diana can be considered as the best of friends in the palace. In the Duchess of York's 1996 autobiography, My Story, she detailed her "wild night" with the People's Princess that got Queen Elizabeth II amused.
Sarah Ferguson and Princess Diana celebrated the former's hen night dressed up as policewomen. The two even had to sneak out of the Buckingham Palace and fool the security to match Prince Andrew's stag party at Aubrey House before their big day.
"I desperately wanted to gate-crash, but the fortress was impregnable: high wall, single entrance, guards with major biceps - no go," Sarah Ferguson said, via Express. "As a fallback, Diana and I staged a hen-night."
To make their mission possible, the two royal donned grey wigs, authentic policewomen outfits, dark stockings, and lace-up shoes. They then pretended to arrest one of their friends, who agreed to act like a promiscuous lady.
The police on duty at the palace gate at the time saw their move as "very strange." They then called out the park police, who arrested all of them for causing a scene outside the Buckingham Palace. They all ended up in the police van, including their protection officer, who also agreed to play along.
Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson had no intention to resist but even found the ordeal funny. The officers didn't recognize the two after they turned their engagement rings on the wrong side.
However, when they were about to reach the end of the Mall, one of the policemen recognized Princess Diana. Fortunately, they managed to convince the officers to drop them off near the Mayfair nightclub Anabel's. Here, Sarah Ferguson revealed they had a wild night before they headed back to Buckingham Palace around 2 a.m.
Later, Sarah Ferguson confessed their hen night to Queen Elizabeth, who found their "wild night" amusing. Sarah, who is famously known as Fergie, revealed they managed to go clean away with it, being naughty but still adored by everyone.
Sarah Ferguson and Princess Diana used to be very close. They used to go out for lunch every week. Fergie turned to be the Princess of Wales' confidante as she struggled with her new life as a member of the royal family. Prince Charles' ex-wife would often call her to visit Buckingham Palace to cheer her up.
In her autobiography, Sarah Ferguson revealed that Princess Diana was two years younger than her, so she tried hard to support and protect her as a big sister would. In fact, she is still doing the same thing today as her best friend.
