Amazon Studios wouldn't let fans wonder what happened to Billy McBride after he got shot in Goliath Season 3 finale. Fans of the series may now feel relief after the streaming service gave a green light for the fourth and final season of Goliath.
Lead star Billy Bob Thornton is expected to return in the final season of the legal drama as Billy McBride despite being shot at the end of the third season. Along with the renewal announcement, executive producer Lawrence Trilling also revealed that they will be introducing new cast members in Season 4.
Amazon Studios has yet to confirm when the production of Season 4 will begin and when it will be released. It is expected though to have eight episodes like the previous three installments. The streaming service released its eight-episode Season 3 on October 4.
Goliath follows the life of lawyer Billy McBride (Thorton). He was once a brilliant and popular lawyer. He d a law firm but he walked out of it and became an alcoholic after a murder suspect he got acquitted on a technicality murdered an entire family. Since then, he seeks redemption by solving cases that nobody else can.
In the previous season, McBride's friend got sucked into a sinkhole in her vineyard in California that resulted in her death. While investigating the tragic death, McBride came face-to-face with new Goliath: a billionaire ranch owner Wade Blackwood (Dennis Quaid), and his sister, Diana Blackwood (Amy Brenneman). As he and his team find the truth and seek justice for his friend, some old enemies and personal demons resurfaced.
At the end of Season 3, Diana confronted Billy in a car park. She shot him and left him bleeding out on the road. The episode ended with McBride lying on his own blood. Thornton earlier teased that if Goliath will return for another season, he would be inclined to reprise his role as well.
Goliath has been one of the most popular original series on Amazon and at one point held the crown as network's most binged show. The series also received praise from TV critics. In fact, Thornton had won a Golden Globe in Season 1.
The legal drama is also one of the few remaining shows that were developed by original Amazon Studios former president Roy Price. Trilling is also the third showrunner for the drama. He replaced Clyde Phillips who replaced original showrunner, David E. Kelley, who created the series along with Jonathan Shapiro.
