Prince Charles is now 71 years old, but the Prince of Wales has no plans to slow down. However, no matter how hard he works, it looks like Princess Anne still beats him when it comes to doing royal engagements. Is there a strict competition between the two?
Prince Charles started to take some of Queen Elizabeth II's duties as he prepares to inherit the throne. However, it looks like Princess Anne also proves that she is a hard worker as much as her brother and mother.
At his age, Prince Charles is the longest-serving and oldest heir apparent. He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales.
When the time comes that Queen Elizabeth has to abdicate the throne, Prince Charles is set to be the next king. Her Majesty prepares her eldest son to take on more royal duties and delegates him to do some royal tasks. He now takes on several official functions on behalf of her mother and the Commonwealth realms.
According to Express, royal expert Phil Dampier reveals that Queen Elizabeth plans to end her reign at 95 years old. That's two years from now. She may invoke the 1937 Regency Act, which means she will leave the majority of her royal duties to her son.
This will allow the queen to hand over her power if she feels unable to perform her duties anymore adequately. "She will still be Queen, but Prince Charles will, in fact, take over most of the duties," Phil Dampier explains.
Prince Charles is already doing these things. He was with Queen Elizabeth at the state opening in Parliament and the Commonwealth conference. He is also taking over a lot of royal duties and doing the investitures.
However, despite his hard work, Prince Charles still fails to live up to Queen Elizabeth's strong work ethic. The monarch takes over 300 royal engagements each year throughout her reign.
Prince Charles only completed 157 work engagements this year. His sister, Princess Anne, on the other hand, completed 179 royal activities. The Princess Royal completed most engagements this year than anyone in the royal family.
Indeed, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle get everyone's attention when they perform their royal duties, but Princess Anne stays low-key when she works. In total, she completed almost twice as many engagements of that of the two Duchesses combined, per Daily Mail Online. Hence, it is no surprise that Anne is dubbed as the most hardworking royal.
