Prince Edward has been married to Sophie for two decades, making their union one of the most successful marriages in the royal family household. However, the Earl of Wessex is being accused of bisexuality as he was believed to have made out with a boy.
On the online forum site Quora, netizens discussed Prince Edward’s sexuality. The author of the post asked: “Is HRH Prince Edward gay?” Royal fans then shared their thoughts regarding the ongoing speculation.
“Some people who have spent time around Prince Edward are pretty sure he’s a closeted gay man who was forced to marry a woman because of his royal status,” one wrote. “The fact that he once pursued a career in the theater isn’t necessarily proof of him being gay, but there was the matter of his relationship with actor Michael Ball in the 1990s.”
The fan noted that what Prince Edward had with Michael Ball was called “touching friendship” by Contemporary newspaper. Since neither of the men admitted that something romantic was going on between them, their alleged romance was considered to be just a rumor.
However, one netizen shared that Prince Edward was caught making out with another boy during his younger years, proving that he not straight at all. “It’s a strong possibility Prince Edward is bisexual,” the royal fan claimed. “Prince Edward when younger visited his brother at his Highgrove Estate, Prince Charles’ private home. The teenage son of the Housekeeper at Highgrove walked into the stables more than once catching Prince Edward and the Stable boy making out.”
The fan added that when Prince Charles and Princess Diana got a divorce, the former made a complete staff overhaul. The Highgrove housekeeper that was let go moved to Canada and eventually wrote a book about Prince Edward's sexuality. However, it was never released. “In England, such a book depicting any Royal unfavorably regarding the Royal Family is never printed out of respect to the Monarchy,” the fan said.
Although Prince Edward’s sexuality has been questioned throughout the years, there are a lot of fans who are not convinced of the speculation. Most of them pointed out that the Earl of Wessex can't be gay or bisexual as he is happily married to Sophie.
“No, he isn’t. He’s happily married to Sophie, Countess of Wessex, who is probably everyone’s favorite Royal,” one wrote. “He has a wife and family and a couple of known ex-girlfriends. He worked in the arts before taking up royal duties full-time so if there had been any boyfriends we would probably have heard about it,” another one shared.
