Prince Philip was reportedly "pushed out" of the Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953. A royal historian claimed that an archbishop tried to put the Duke of Edinburgh out of his wife's enthronement, but the Queen herself didn't let it happen.

In his book The Crown: Truth and Fiction, royal historian Hugo Vickers revealed that the scene of Prince Philip's agitation in The Crown was based on "a kernel of truth." According to Express, he attested that Archbishop of Canterbury pushed the Duke out as much as possible.

"There must be no association of him in any way with the process & rite of Coronation," the archbishop said, per Hugo Pickers. "Yet they also show that Prince Philip was quite happy to do fealty after the Archbishop when he could have been expected to go first."

However, Prince Philip presented a silver gilt wafer box to the Abbey and a chalice and paten to Lamberth as a sign of respect to take place next to Queen Elizabeth during the communion. Hugo Pickers added that Philip had no intention to be the King. Although it was true that the Archbishop tried to remove his role in the coronation, the Queen herself included her husband in the service, like the communion.

Hugo Vickers also noticed how The Crown gave Prince Philip the credits for making the ceremony be televised. As the chairman of Her Majesty's Coronation Committee, he pitched the idea, so his wife stood against the prominent figures, like Winston Churchill, to make sure that the ceremony would be broadcasted.

However, Hugo Pickers cleared that Prince Philip never refused to kneel before the Queen, just like what The Crown showed. In fact, in real-life, he knelt in front of his wife.

Prince Philip is often considered brusque and even prone to lapses. But, the 98-year-old member of the royal family managed to prove himself as Queen Elizabeth's companion for more than 70 years. The two got married in 1947, even before she was crowned as the reigning monarch.

In her golden speech wedding, Queen Elizabeth described his relationship with Prince Philip as "quite simply her strength." He also stays by her side all these years. History Extra noted that their bond is the "longest royal marriage in recorded history."

Prince William even revealed that Prince Philip's support to Queen Elizabeth was something that his grandmother often bragged about in private. Their partnership is said to be one of the Queen's most significant achievements in her reign.
