Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly decided not to leave England for the holiday season at all. It was previously announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be taking a six-week break from royal duties and will be traveling to the U.S. to celebrate Thanksgiving Day with Meghan's mother. They reportedly might stay there for a few more weeks for Christmas.
The Suits alum, however, reportedly changed her mind and decided to spend Christmas in England. Meghan instead made plans to fly her mother, Doria Ragland, to the U.K. so she can still celebrate both Thanksgiving and Christmas with her.
Reports have it that Ragland will arrive in London anytime soon in time for Thanksgiving. However, since Thanksgiving is an American holiday and not an official British tradition, Harry and Meghan will not celebrate it. Instead, the Duchess of Sussex and Ragland are reportedly planning to volunteer at a homeless shelter in London on this day.
Meghan spent last year's Thanksgiving at their old home in Kensington Palace. She reportedly made a traditional Thanksgiving meal for Harry, and that includes a turkey.
Prince Harry is also reportedly pleased with his wife's decision as it means he would get to spend Christmas with his family. The royal prince always spent Christmas at the Queen's Norfolk home. For the past two years, he was joined by Meghan.
Harry only missed Christmas with the royal family once. Prince William's younger brother was an active-duty soldier in Afghanistan; hence, he failed to join his family for the holidays in 2012.
The upcoming holiday is significant for the Sussexes as this is their first Christmas as father and mother. Harry and Meghan's first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, was born on May 6.
Although the royal couple will be in England for the holiday, it is reported that they are not spending Christmas with Queen Elizabeth II at Sandringham in line with the precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family. Instead, the couple and Baby Archie will celebrate Christmas at Frogmore Cottage with Ragland.
Meanwhile, though the Queen reportedly approved Prince Harry and Meghan's decision to stay in the U.K. for the holiday, it doesn't mean she was not hurt by their first plan to spend it the U.S. Express cited royal expert Ingrid Seward as saying the Queen might be a little hurt but the monarch is too gracious to show it the couple.
