Princess Charles and Princess Diana stayed as a normal couple at home despite the turmoil in their marriage. According to a royal insider, the former couple did it for the sake of their children Prince William and Prince Harry.
According to former royal chef Carolyn Robb everything is normal between Diana and Charles at home amidst the imminent split. They never showed any animosity on each other when they are in front of their household staff or their children. Robb added like other members of the Kensington Palance staff; she only gets updates about the royal split through the press.
"They were very professional about everything, and everything was kept completely normal for the sake of William and Harry," she told Yahoo UK royal reporter Omid Scobie.
Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer tied the knot in July 1981 in a fairytale-like wedding that is one of the most-watched events of the 20th century. After 11 years of marriage, the couple decided to end their relationship, but Diana still lived in Kensington Palace with William and Harry. Robb, meanwhile, continued to cook for Prince Charles after the separation.
In the same year, royal biographer Andrew Morton released Diana: Her True Story where the Princess of Wales revealed her struggles in her marriage. Diana's revelations in the book did not sit well with Charles. He gave an interview with Jonathan Dimbleby and confessed about his extramarital affair.
A year later, Diana revealed everything in her controversial interview with Martin Bashir for BBC's Panorama. She opened up not only about Charles' affair with his former girlfriend Camilla Parker Bowles but her romance with Major James Hewitt as well.
In the same interview, the late princess also expressed doubts that the father of her sons is suited to be the next king. After the interview, Queen Elizabeth II urged the couple to finalize their divorce.
The divorce was finalized in August 1996. Since then, the former couple never talks about their marriage again as they signed a confidentiality agreement that forbids them from discussing the details of their married life or their divorce.
Diana lost the style "Her Royal Highness" after the divorce. Instead, her name was styled Diana, Princess of Wales.
Meanwhile, Robb also talked about Prince William and Prince Harry's personalities during the challenging time of their parents' marriage. She compared what William and Harry are like now in comparison when they were still kids.
Robb said very little has changed with the personalities of Diana's sons. They have kept their remarkable qualities such as being warm and caring as well as paying full attention to what the people around them are doing.
