ABC has yet to announce the renewal of Dancing With The Stars following Season 28 finale on Monday, but many are already anticipating its return next year. The bad news is that it may still have one season in 2020, just like this year.
DWTS Season 28 crowned it champions The Bachelorette's Hannah Brown and her professional dance partner Alan Bersten on Monday. Now, many fans are ready to move forward to a new batch of celebrities hitting the dance floor.
Despite the dive in viewership ratings, ABC is not expected to pull the plug on the show. Season 28 averages a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.6 million viewers during the premiere week and the semi-finals. It is a drop of less than 10 percent from the show's average of 6.999 million viewers in Season 27.
Despite the drop in ratings, it looks like cancellation is not imminent for DWTS. However, the network may be scaling back its number of seasons this year and will yet again premiere in fall. Since 2006, the show has aired two seasons per year since: one in spring and one in fall. However, the show only had one season this year.
This scenario is getting more likely to happen again in Dancing With The Stars Season 29 and it might also premiere in fall rather than in spring. The Hollywood Reporter cited some reasons for such assumption.
One of which is the notable absence of DWTS from the 2020 midseason premiere dates that was released by ABC this month. Also, ABC president Karey Burke had previously said a one season per year format is important not only to the professional dancers on the show but also for the network to get great celebrity performers on the floor.
While waiting for Dancing With The Stars Season 29, fans of the show may catch their favorite pro dancers on their tour which will kick off on January 9, 2020. It will run through April 7, 2020. The celebrities from the 28th season that are expected to appear in the tour include winner Hannah Brown and runner ups Lauren Alaina, Ally Brooke, and Kel Mitchell.
The Dancing With The Stars interactive experience, titled "Journey to Paradise," will also take place at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. This experience will run for three days, starting on May 29, 2020.
