Every move of the members of the royal family has been scrutinized by the public. More so when they are meeting with world leaders or celebrities. The recent Buckingham Palace's reception for NATO leaders is packed of speculations about what happened during an interaction between a president or prime minister and a member of the royal family.
For instance, Prince Charles has been accused of not taking a handshake from Donald Trump. Royal observers noticed that the Prince of Wales did shook hands with First Lady Melania Trump but not with the US President. Charles allegedly kept his hand on his back after he shook the hand of Mrs. Trump.
The clip of the said encounter has been shared online and it shows the Trumps greeting Queen Elizabeth II, Charles, and Camilla. In the video, the American couple is seen speaking to the royal line up.
Towards the end of their brief chat, Trump shakes hands with the Duchess of Cornwall. Prince Charles' hand reaches across to politely shake Melania's hand. But the next in line to the British throne proceeded to keep his hands behind his back instead of offering it to the U.S. President. Camilla also took Melania's hand.
What is not seen in the clip is that Prince Charles shake hands with Donald Trump as soon as he and Melanie entered the room. The gesture, however, was not seen on the video because Czech Republic President Milos Zeman, who greeted the Queen before the Trump, walked directly to the camera after his chat with the Queen.
This means Charles did give Trump a handshake. They actually shook hands even before the small chat at the royal line up started. Trump first shake hands with the Queen and then Charles. He did not shake hands with Camila until towards the end of the conversation.
Meanwhile, before heading to Buckingham Palace for a reception hosted by the Queen, Prince Charles and Camilla also met the Trumps for tea at Clarence House. There have been reports that the President and First Lady were one hour late of their meeting at the Prince's London residence.
According to Mirror, the couple's original schedule is 5:10 p.m. but they didn't make it to the royal resident until 6:05 p.m. The meeting only lasted for 15 minutes. Neither Charles nor Trump has yet to reveal the nature of their recent talk.
It can be recalled that during the Trumps' last visit in June, the U.S. President revealed that Charles talked most of the time and it was about climate change. The Prince of Wales has been a vocal supporter of initiatives that help mitigate the effects of climate change. He has been campaigning on organic farming as well.
