Months ahead of its expected unveiling, some of the banner features for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S11 have been hinted, thanks to the official reveal of the flagship mobile processors that will power the handset models. Among the fresh additions are the ability to record 8K video clips and an improved 3D display sensor.
When Qualcomm pulled the wraps off the Snapdragon 865 earlier, one key upgrade that will be packed with the chipset is the in-display fingerprint scanner called 3D Sonic Max, and according to the chipmaker, the sensor will be a huge jump from last year's iteration.
It is expected that the next-generation biometric reader will erase the glitches seen in the previous version. It will be faster, more accurate, and most importantly more secure. As Snapdragon 865 will be the standard for the Galaxy S11 (at least for the international version), Forbes said the sensor will be part of the package once the device has been unpacked.
There is information if the same component or something similar will be deployed by Samsung for variants of the Galaxy S11 that will be issued in specific markets in Asia and Europe. Normally for these destinations, the South Korean tech giant releases the flagship Galaxy phones with its in-house Exynos CPU, and for the S11 push, the chipset of choice will be the Exynos 990.
What is known, however, is that both the latest Exynos and Snapdragon chips will have a common rear camera feature - the ability to record 8K videos.
According to Engadget, 8K vide creation is all but confirmed for the Galaxy S11 as the capability is fully supported by the Snapdragon 865 and the Exynos 990. Relative to this feature is the hint that the handset's main shooter will be equipped with a 108MP primary sensor.
Still on the camera upgrade, the same report indicated of 5X optical zoom for the S11 camera and optical image stabilization will be part of the deal.
It should be noted that 8K video recording is not a first for Samsung. WCCFTech said the same feature was first seen with a flagship device introduced by ZTE. However, it will not come as a surprise that Samsung's take on the camera capability will be a lot better due to the more advanced hardware components that will debut with the Galaxy S11.
The usual timing of Samsung's unpacking for its first flagship offering of the year is the early months. That means the Galaxy S11 is lined up for revelation in February, as in previous cases, and the commercial release will likely follow in early March 2020.
The other specification details and pricing for the Galaxy S11 have yet to be disclosed by Samsung but more information on the device could be leaked in the weeks ahead.
